The Alligator Gar  is a tropical fish found at Panas Jungle. It is  the largest species of gars, exceeding 10 feet for S-ranked specimens. It is quite common and tends to become an annoyance when fishing for the Pirarucu or the Electric Eel . It has a rare variant where its entire body is bright white instead of brown, which dubbed as Platinum Alligator Gar. The platinum variant is not available to catch until you activate the quest "Monster of Silver."

Techniques[]

The Alligator Gar may looks like a Pirarucu in the water, but smaller and its snout is narrower. To distinguish between the regular and the platinum variants is not easy: the platinum variant looked slightly brighter, which is more apparent at night.

It is an XL-sized fish and gives a tough fight. It is highly likely to break the line of you are using inferior tackle (something like HF-1400 Hamstring rod or MF-05 Hunter reel), especially at early game. The regular variant likes to take the bait/lure first, but the platinum variant tends to hit last if there are more common fish around such as Redtail Catfish or even the regular gars.

Trivia[]

  • Real-life Alligator Gars once inhabited as far north as Iowa, however its unfortunate status as a "trash fish" and "nuisance species" (which was proven completely wrong) in the past leads into extirpation on northern populations due to mass slaughter by authorities and local fishermen.
  • They are a popular species for public aquaria and zoos, even some people kept them as pets.
  • Unlike other gars, Alligator Gars have a dual rows of sharp teeth at their upper jaw.
  • The oldest Alligator Gar was reported to be rougly 95-year-old
  • The Platinum Alligator Gar is the most sought after ornamental fish, especially in Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Japan. It is almost as expensive as the Arowana, and sometimes they're kept in the same tank
