The Nile Perch, also known as African Snook, is a large fish found in Malam Jungle. It is a large fish with a stocky body. It may look similar with the Barramundi, but the perch is uniformly silvery while the later is white with a darker head. This common African fish may interfere when trying to catch other large Malam fish.
Locations[]
- Malam Jungle: Malam Mountain (West, South, North); Malam Outlet
Baits & Lures[]
- Baits: Quick Hitter XL, Rainbow XL
- Swimming Lures: Gullible (Blue)
Techniques[]
This fish is so common that finding it should be easy. Although it can be found at the outlet, this fish seems to prefer the Mountain sides, makes it the biggest fish in those areas. Likes to hit the bait fish, the Perch often become a nuisance when looking for the rarer Tigerfish and the Barramundi.
Any XL-sized tackle works.
Trivia[]
- They are actually larger than the Barramundi in real life: Nile Perch may grow larger than 6 ft, but the Barra can only reach around 4 ft.
- Because of their voracious appetite and large size, they are highly destructive when introduced outside of their native range. In one case on Lake Victoria in East Africa, they were not only caused a lot of native species went extinct, but also dramatically disrupt the local economy and increase demand for firewood, causing deforestation (Nile Perches must be smoked to avoid spoiling).
- The state of Queensland in Australia heavily forbids any possessions of a living Nile Perch, because they directly compete against the native Barramundi.
